It’s recommended that a company installs and keep up to date with the version recommended for Enterprise Edition at animbot.ca/versions
However, it’s not mandatory, Enterprise Edition can install any version, including Beta releases if desired. The recommended version is purely a recommendation based on how “production safe” the release is, and it’s generally very conservative. The ultimate decision to update is in the company’s hands, as reasons can vary, i.e. even recommended updates may not be very welcome at crunch time of a production, whereas at the beginning of a production a brand new release might worth a try.
